Roscoe's House of Chicken N' Waffles

So I've lived in Los Angeles for 27 years and there are so many places that people put on their "to visit" list when they come to L.A. that I have never been to. One of those places....ROSCOE'S CHICKEN AND WAFFLES.

The basic idea of this restaurant of yummy goodness is the concept of good ol' savory and sweet all in one plate. If you tend to dip your breakfast sausage in a little pancake syrup when no one is lookin' (like I do...shhh) you will truly love this place!!!

Then menu might be a little overwhelming but the workers are very good about explaining it to you.

I opted for #1 Scoe's 1/4 chicken southern style and two delicious ginormous waffles. You have the option of choosing which type of chicken meat you'd like (dark or white). The waffles were pretty much the best waffles I've had in a restaurant. The hint of cinnamon pretty much brought all the flavors together. As for the chicken....I pretty much dipped the chicken in the syrup (which I realized that they give you those little syrup cups per the amount of waffles you get on your plate), I made a small waffle and chicken sandwich, and I pretty much ALMOST finished my entire plate. I haven't mentioned drinks because I basically had water to wash my meal down with but they do serve different drinks from coffee to a fun sweet fruity drinks.

The setting was nice too! I went to the original spot on Pico Blvd. The space is not small! There is definitely enough space in the restaurant for people to not feel crowded in but I can see how on weekend (like a Sunday, which I've been advised NOT to go on) can get pretty slammed.

The atmosphere is a chill as it can get. Funny because as much "hype" this franchise gets, you definitely don't get that once your inside, at least not at the one on Pico which is what I loved. It's pretty much a place where you can go with friends and have great food and that is exactly what I did. My friends pretty much made it their goal to bring me here (and I was so thankful because this wouldn't be the place where my bf would bring me to). One of my friends told me that night that she actually had her birthday party there a couple of years ago. Amazing!!

The staff was great (attentive but not in a kiss ass sort of way), the food was amazing, but word to the wise: THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT A PLACE YOU WANT VISIT FREQUENTLY. It IS heavy food so you definitely don't want to make a habit out of coming here. Think of it more as the spot you visit on special occasions =) I'm just saying...if you are trying to live a healthy lifestyle without depriving yourself from REAL food DEFINITELY visit Roscoe's but proceed with caution!

A'Float Sushi

So my boyfriend and I are huge lovers of sushi (I'm working on getting us into the real sushi...the raw stuff). Any who...one of our places we frequently visit is Old Town Pasadena. For some of you who may not know what Old Town Pasadena is or where it is...it is pretty much a long strip of restaurants (such as Bucca Di Beppo/Italian), retail stores (Forever 21 & Pottery Barn), and clubs (Villa Sorriso). CHECK OUT THE LINK...Parking can be a doozy but not impossible! Getting back to...THE FOOD!

The place is A'Float Sushi. One thing that you can expect is a relaxed and chill environment! As you are sometimes greeted immediately as you enter the restaurant, there are tables at the entrance which you could choose to sit in but the fun really is placed towards the center of the restaurant. It is pretty much a long center table where the sushi chefs' station is in the center, there is a conveyer belt that goes all the way around the table with little boats filled with delicious sushi, and then there are more seats that go around this long "family style" table. Now I will be honest, do not....do NOT expect great customer service. You place your order and its a crap shoot if they actually put it in or if they forget to because they are [not] busy.

The nice part of this place that doesn't let the off customer service is that you can basically serve yourself. If you go before 9:30pm, the chefs are consistently making fresh sushi and filling those cute little boats I ♥ so much! The amazing thing about this conveyer belt of heaven is that you can basically get your entire meal without moving an inch. Aside from sushi, you can get your edamame (baby soybean pods usually served in Japanese restaurants) to these fruit desserts they occasionally serve. You can also order many other things they have listed on their paper menus (you can somewhat see below)*

I usually have to have my hot green tea (which is amazing here), miso soup, and my boyfriend and I have these staples that I'll have to add later that I think everyone should try!!!! The way that they go about figuring out your tab is that they have 4 or 5 different colored dishes that they use; the least expensive starts at $1.90 to their most expensive $5.99. You basically keep all your dishes as you eat and then right before you leave, they counts your dishes and then hand you your bill. But before you leave, you HAVE to have their green tea ice cream...yum!!!

Overall, it's such a great little place to go and just sit back at a really nice place without the fuss of a fancy restaurant. If you and/or your guy are worried about missing the game? No worries because they have about 3 flat screens. Thursday-Saturday it can get packed (generally the whole street gets busy); Thursdays because there are clubs on that street and well Friday through Saturday (and sometimes even Sundays) because that is just how weekends go just about anywhere.

The Counter: Where your wildest burger dreams come true

So this was my second visit to burger heaven and this is what inspired me to start this blog (that and the fact that my boyfriend and I never know where to go eat after 9pm). If you have never heard about The Counter here's the low-down. After you have walked in and have been shown to your table, you are handed what I'd like to call the magical clip-board (that contains the menu and a sheet with the most tantalizing ingredients). I must admit, all the ingredients are a bit intimidating at first because you pretty much want to pick everything. I opted for 1/3 beef patty (options are between a 1/3, 2/3, or... a 1lb), horseradish cheddar, organic greens, roasted peppers, sauteed mushrooms, and with guacamole on a regular bun (picture above). To some it might not sound exciting but at the time, it hit the spot. My boyfriend got more creative as he opted for the grilled chicken, sauteed mushrooms, organic greens, grilled pineapple, and black olives on a regular bun with horseradish mayo on the side (picture on the right). Now the only thing that can top off such amazing burgers are amazing fries...sweet potato fries! I know...sweet potato fries? What? Yeah they are amazing. You can try their regular fries but even the Lawry's-like seasoning that I love so much didn't distract me from the small & skinny fries that I must say didn't satisfy my french-fries hunger. You decided though. All I can say is that if you have never had sweet potato fries, this is a great place to give them a shot! The prices are also not too bad when you consider what you're getting. The prices range from $6.95-$12.00 for a burger (it all really depends on how creative you get). So if you're on a tight budget you might want to consider coming here a splurge if you end up spending $12 for a burger but at that point...it would be all well worth it!
Between the cool art work (that varies from black and white rock & roll art to skateboards), the great music, and great service, The Counter is definitely a great "build-your-own" burger joint.

LOCATIONS: There is more than in location in California so there is no way that you won't have the chance to go at least ONCE! I would go to their website for more details, however, here are the some of the locations
California: El Segundo, Los Angeles (Sunset Blvd), Marina Del Rey, Pasadena, Santa Monica, and Studio City JUST to name a few!
Good eating!

TIMES: Most of the locations close at 10 pm but you'll find that on Fridays and Saturdays most of them usually close at 11pm.
